In high school, other than trying to get into college, and get descent grades and do well on the SAT, find out what kind of school you are looking for. If it is a small school where you can make some very good friends and know all your professors, of if you would like a big school where your professors don't know you, and you probably hardly ever run into anyone you know, just go out and check the schools in your area. Get out there and do some research into it.
